"It's not every day you meet a rising country artist who can also assemble a torpedo tube— but then again, Ed Earl isn't your average Nashville newcomer."

About Ed Earl

Neo-traditional country artist and U.S. Navy Reserve Lieutenant Ed Earl has spent his adulthood doing what most people can't — balancing active military service, family life, and a rapidly growing country music career, all at once, with no sign of slowing down.

As Ryan Labee of Military.com put it: "It's not every day you meet a rising country artist who can also assemble a torpedo tube — but then again, Ed Earl isn't your average Nashville newcomer."

After enlisting in the Navy straight out of high school, the Texas-born artist never stopped writing songs or playing shows. He studied music in Santa Fe while continuing to serve, and is now based in Tennessee — where his classic, animated style draws from dance hall culture, a working-class perspective, and the country music he grew up with. Think Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, and George Strait.

Where modern country has drifted toward arena rock and polished pop, Ed Earl stands as a beacon of unapologetic traditionalism — letting the pedal steel, whining fiddle, and raw twang of '80s and '90s country speak for itself.

"I've always felt called to write, sing, and play country music. That's one of the only things I've ever known for sure."

"HonkyTonk Degree" — Out Now

Take real-life experience, add a hearty dose of traditional country storytelling, and you get "HonkyTonk Degree" — a playful, heartfelt anthem and a love letter to down-south tradition and every lesson learned outside the classroom.

Written with Alex Dooley and produced by Dean Scallan, the track comes alive at 5 PM on a Friday — when working people across the South jumpstart their weekend with cold beer, neon lights, and loud country music.

"People go out to let loose and have fun," Earl says. "That's always been a thing in Texas — and honestly, Navy people do the same thing."

Swinging with a Southwestern swagger lifted straight from '90s country radio, the elastic fiddle and driving rhythm carry a road-worn authenticity that could only come from a genuine expert in barstool chemistry. It's built for two-stepping, singing along, and kicking off the weekend right.

Released during Veterans Day week, "HonkyTonk Degree" continues to gain serious traction — landing on more than 40 radio stations nationwide and charting on Europe's Hotdisc and New Music Weekly country charts.

The Music Video — Watch It Now

The official "HonkyTonk Degree" music video leans fully into the rowdy, boot-scuffing atmosphere of the modern honky tonk. All this self-proclaimed Professor of Party needs is a friend, a camera, a couple of good hats, and a guitar — and that's exactly how it unfolds.

Making its worldwide online premiere on Music-News.com — one of the most-visited music sites on the internet — the video took to Earl's favorite neon-soaked Nashville spots: AJ's Good Time Bar and Legends Corner, moving through the night with the real-life patrons who inspired the song: friends staying out until closing time, dancing, laughing, and stealing one good night away from the responsibilities waiting back home.

If he looks like he's having a blast, it's because he is. And that's never going to change.
